Mirror-Wave Shift Technology allows for quick, near-instant inter-spatial transportation between two addressed locations.
An attenuation signal can be located on the same mirror-wave of the location. This signal allows for correct attenuation and wave/channel structure for the receiving device/location.
The discovery of the wave-channel phenomenon was quickly followed by the discovery of an entangled attenuation signal. The attenuation signal has a high band and a low band. The low band is immutable, and contains location and orientation data, while the high band contains mask data that can be applied to material to make the wave/channel shift to the new location. The final piece of the puzzle is origin point, which is generated by the Shift Pad, operating like a decryption mask for the receiving unit.
In this, a universally stable method of transportation was discovered that allows for a transfer to any receiver that has been constructed, so long as the attenuation signal is known.
NOMADS have figured out how to predict/test/locate attenuation signals and have spent the last 100 years mapping the known shift-system. Because of the need for local attenuation, all map data is relative, until converted into a universal attenuation format. NOMADS do not need universal attenuation data to shift.
Xeno-Receivers
Because this transportation structure is built into the fabric of material existence, it exists as a universal standard and other high tech civilizations that have built these units can be visited. Once you find one, you can travel to it. Though location is difficult, NOMADS have developed a method of accurately predicting receivers throughout the universe.
Most civilizations that have built these no longer exist, an unfortunate reality of a combination of time and Fermi-like civilization filters. Their pads, however still work, so long as they've been properly uncovered. NOMADS do this as part of their mapping efforts.
Terminology
Mirror-Wave: The location of the entangled attenuation signal of the wave-channel
Attenuation Signal: The carrier structure that contains the information required to make a safe shift to the remote location at the wave-channel
Wave-Channel Structure: The carrier structure that contains direct temporal information required to safely shift.
Shift: The act of completing a receiver-to-receiver transfer of material or data.
Shift Receiver: The receiving unit, often a piece of technological hardware, that allows for a wave-channel to be correctly integrated.
Shift Pad: The physical pad or chamber that performs the physical re-integration. Part of the receiving system.
Xeno Pad: A shift receiver or pad that was constructed by non-humankind. Possibly extra-terrestrial or AI in nature. Travelling these paths without NOMAD assistance is considered extremely dangerous.
Shift Map: A relative map of shifts to move between an array of points in space. These shifts have attenuation signals relative to their existing locations, making them suitable for path obfuscation or mitigating difficulties with the shift system (including man-made sabotage or other rare natural phenomenon.) The map of shifts includes all known Shift Receivers that have been built.
Universal Attenuation Format: A non-relative shift map that has built in translation from relative mapping to absolute mapping. This works like most typical maps, but simplifies relative path-finding.
NOMAD: A member of a nomadic culture that uses ancient oral traditions as a foundation for understanding and mapping complex Shift Maps of both human and xeno origin.
